Holobar combines a bar code within a hologram to help ensuring product authenticity. Using BTI's patented bar code technology, Holobar embed a machine readable bar code within a 3-dimensional holographic image. The advantage is having the bar code as a part of the holographic image itself.

In addition, the GS1 Databar portion of bar code can be used to print a second bar code (composite) associated with the first bar code (linear) inside the hologram. Together, they make a combined bar code which cannot be duplicated.

Holobar provides retailers with product authenticity and anti-counterfeiting capabilities on hang tags not yet experienced in the consumer goods market. The unique optical property to diffract light and create virtual 3D effects makes it impossible to copy using a scanner or photocopier. An additional layer of product security is available with the option to include invisible phosphorous ink and/or DNA taggants within Holobar.

To the consumers, research shows hologram is perceived as a protection for higher value products. Consumers believe manufacturers who use holograms care more about the quality of their products.
